Rabbits are used for polyclonal antibody production by ELK Biotech. Rabbit antibodies are very stable and can be stored for several days at room temperature. ELK Biotech adds sodium azide and glycerol to enhance the stability of the rabbit polyclonal antibodies. Anti-human, anti mouse antibodies to highly immunogenic selected peptide sequences are" monoclonal like" since the epitope to which they are directed is less than 35 amino acids long.
This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. A monoclonal antibody specific to Prolactin (PRL) has been pre-coated onto a microplate. A competitive inhibition reaction is launched between biotin labeled Prolactin (PRL) and unlabeled Prolactin (PRL) (Standards or samples) with the pre-coated antibody specific to Prolactin (PRL). After incubation the unbound conjugate is washed off. Next, avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. The amount of bound HRP conjugate is reverse proportional to the concentration of Prolactin (PRL) in the sample. After addition of the substrate solution, the intensity of color developed is reverse proportional to the concentration of Prolactin (PRL) in the sample.
